Sweetened Caffeine drinks could keep you calm

I know a friend of mine who just can’t get through her day without having a cup of tea or coffee in the evening. She reminds me of my mom. She’s fussy about her evening cup of hot beverage as well. “I need my quota of caffeine” claims Ruth, my colleague. “I just can’t do without it!” I believe the only times I have seen Ruth angered or distressed was at the turn of the 19th century. Well, neither I, nor she is that old; so you know what I mean.

A new study that was conducted by a leading website has broken down this phenomenon for me. It suddenly seems to make perfect sense.

Ruth Tea Calm always

According to the study, people who choose to drink sweetened beverages like a sweet tea for instance, are less likely to be argumentative or angry.

Caffeine drinksThe Idea behind It –

The energy boost that is provided by the sugar present in these sugary drinks is a natural booster for the brain. It allows for the person to have more control over their own impulses; this would mean people would be able to prevent spontaneous reactions when they are already under stress. Spontaneous reactions are one of the main reasons why some people are so short tempered or sharp tongued.

Testing It –

Tests were conducted on volunteers; and some of them were given lemonade with artificial sweeteners in opposition to the others who got lemonade with simple sugar in it. Those who’d drunk the one with simple sugars had shown signs of being able to deal with pressure in a more positive manner; they were productive even when placed under pressure and didn’t bend to the point of breaking.

Each of these volunteers was instructed to perform some stressful tasks. The one’s who had consumed sugar performed better than the ones who hadn’t.

At the same time, the researchers also tried criticizing some of them, to provoke them and garner their reactions. The ones with no sugar in their drinks seemed to have taken badly to the criticizing, in comparison to those who had consumed the sugar.

The Conclusion -

Australian researchers who conducted this study concluded that this strategy best suits people who are working. They suggest that you drink a cup of tea with sugar just before a meeting or before you step into the boss’ cabin – especially if he’s the kind of boss who doesn’t think you ever work enough. The sweetened tea will end up increasing the person’s ability to inhibit any sort of aggressive impulses that they might be garnering on the inside. If a cup of sweetened tea or coffee is consumed after an extremely stressful day at work, you’ll be less likely to snap at fellow drivers of any of your family members as well.
