SNOOZING COULD LEAD TO LOSING

Tringggggggg… The alarm goes off and you wake up. Well, almost! Groggy eyed, you hunt for the alarm (or the cell phone) and you look at the time. It’s 6:20 am. You know you could actually afford to sleep till 7:00 if you decide to take a shower in 10 minutes today instead of the usual 20. Sacrificing 10 minutes of shower-time doesn’t seem like a big deal when weighed with half an hour of sleep, right! Wrong! Think twice before you hit the snooze button next time; it might do worse than better for you. We tell you why!

Metabolism Sleeps For Longer Too:

If you oversleep, the metabolism of your body is also likely to sleep for longer. Your body doesn’t get a chance to get into the right rhythm of things. If you’re sleeping for a longer time, then you’re also starving yourself for that much longer. This will end up affecting the pace at which your metabolism works. This will, sadly, add up to a few more inches on the waist.

Lethargy Sets In:

Snooze button badIt’s almost like a cycle that gets set in motion when you’re sleeping for longer (thanks to the invention of the snooze button). You oversleep, your metabolism takes a setback, and you become lethargic. When your body is still in sleep-mode, it is likely to take longer to kick-start itself. It will take longer than usual to fall into the mode of normal functioning. In that rare case that you just HAVE TO sleep for a little longer, we suggest that the little-longer doesn’t surpass the 30 minute radar.

Loss of time = Loss of productivity:

Most experts agree on one fact – mornings are the most productive time of the day for the human mind and body to work in tandem with each other. Even if you disagree and try to convince yourself by saying that ‘I’m a night person and that’s my productive time’; you know you’re kidding yourself. You wake up late; and you’re losing that much time of a new and beautiful day.

Everything is out of focus:

Disorientation is a direct result of being over-doused with sleep. If you’ve overslept on a particular day, you might end up finding it difficult to concentrate. The one way of breaking this cycle and getting rid of the disorientation would be to exercise some. This would set your metabolism into pace. Lack of metabolism would send signals to your brain, which will begin telling your body that it needs food. This way you will find it difficult to use your brain to work until and unless things fall into motion for you.

My head hurts:

If you find yourself complaining about a headache even after you slept for like 14 hours last night, don’t be surprised. Sleep-starving your body for 2 nights and then trying to replenish it in one single night isn’t the best thing for your body. The spinal fluid ends up making its way to the brain when you oversleep. If this keeps happening for a long period of time, it might lead to chronic cases of headaches. If not taken seriously, this issue could also escalate into blindness. Beware!

All we’re trying to suggest is that, the next time you think of hitting the snooze button -DON’T! Maybe you’re better off jumping off that day and facing the day ahead of you. Good morning, sunshine!
