“Releasing the pressure, it is good for tea pot and water. Try it sometime “. Well like you guys even this line brought a smile on my face. So, let’s thank Mr. Jeb Dickerson for that. What a life we got man? No time even to smile, and what is the use of life that don’t smile.
In modern life, our life is so badly affected by some many things so be it anything politics, social relations, sports, financial status of our bank accounts or our own personal health. We worry about almost everything in world and I guess we even worry for things which may not even exist in this world. Worry often gives small things a big shadow. And we being so stupid, we let this stress rule our life and let them mould our characters and as well as our future. This should be controlled somewhere but we don’t bother it. Its not like ‘WHO CARES?’ it’s like “NO ONE CARES ‘.
Stress is initially described as the disruption of normal and physical and psychological activity. Stress is “a particular pattern of disturbing psychological and physiological reactions that occur when an environment event threatens important motives and taxes one’s ability to cope.”
Well this all things made me uneasy and like we all even I got worried for my kids who are on the edge of getting stress in their everyday life. The thoughts of their future which will be ruled by stress got Goosebumps on my whole body. But like in attempt to avoid worries I myself was taking a huge dive in the pool of stress.
So I came to conclusion, that instead of me worrying and getting stressed it was better to find some solution. First I thought to have word with them but that would leave no impact. I wanted to them to understand and feel the consequences of stress and implement solution on their own as of “Self realization is the best realization “. Then my thoughts plunged that it would have been great if they are taken to any centre where they actually see the effects and get gen from experts. And as of today generation is very rational. They want to everything to be explained one the base of science.
But the question is how was I supposed to take them to these experts? It was out of question, that they were gonna accompany me to such centre. They will think I have lost my mind. So this was something I had to work on.
The solution just clicked when my younger lad came on request to take him to park. That’s it! If there is some sort of picnic organized they definitely turn out for it. So I made my way to their principal’s office, who was undoubtedly happy with my suggestion and who herself got things organized but prior to it we had made our minds that before kids go and visit such centre we need to go and have look.
So, my son’s principal, I and two other preschool teachers joined us to National Academy of Science. Wherein we had word with the experts and kept our concerns in front of them.
The chief expert on the academy greeted on our arrival and said “The long arms of psychological stress are grabbing almost everyone. Disposing us with so many diseases stress reduces the lifespan of cells, memory and working efficiency. Well whatever I told you was just the simpler version of science which you all will come through now in the guidance of our experts”
They definitely guided so through all ways.
One of the experts clad in white apron with glasses and a humble smile on his face made me comfortable but the moment he started with his explanation , he was no doubted some one known as geek” Hello, everyone I hope you apprehend the information and now I would like to get on the point “, pointing to one of the brain structures “Once the brain gets struck by stress, it sends immediate nerve signals down the spinal cord to our adrenal glands telling them to release the hormone adrenaline. Once released, adrenaline increases the amount of sugar in the blood, increases the heart rate and raises our blood pressure”.
Taking a long pause and drawing some other images which were no less then horrifying devil tentacle; he continued,
“Due to stress, the human brain’s hypothalamus also sends signals to our pituitary gland at the bottom of your brain, telling it to release factors that within a few minutes have traveled through the blood stream and stimulated our adrenal cortex to produce a stress hormone – Cortisol. Cortisol in turn damages and kills cells in the hippocampus – the brain area responsible for your episodic memory. And there is strong evidence that chronic stress causes premature brain aging. It makes your brain more vulnerable to damage such as strokes, ageing and stressful events. The cortisol released in stress travels into the brain and binds to the receptors inside many neurons (in the cytoplasm). Through a cascade of reactions, this causes neurons to admit more calcium through channels in their membrane was published by National Association for Mental Health, 2007. He pulled his chair to draw out some published papers and slide towards us.
They explained all details including the recent experiments that were going on : Effects of stress on the DNA and RNA. These words had already horrified me. Was this so dangerous?
The expert was broke my thoughts and made me the part of listeners.
“Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn and Dr. Elissa Epel two well known cell biologists, who have been listed in Time’s Magazine 100 Most Influential People in The World studied whether our stress affected our cells. Well, to clarify they studied two groups of women, one with healthy children and one with chronically sick kids. “With the stressed group, we found that the longer the mothers had been caring for their chronically ill child, the less their telomerase and the shorter their telomeres. “
“Telomeres are DNA-protein complexes that cap the ends of chromosomes and promote genetic stability. Each time a cell divides, a portion of telomere DNA dwindles away, and after many rounds of cell division, so much telomere DNA has diminished that the aged cell stops dividing. Thus, telomeres play a vital role in determining the number of times a cell divides, its health, and its life span. These in turn, affect the health of the tissues that cells form. Telomerase is an enzyme that replenishes a portion of telomeres with each round of cell division, and protects telomeres. Oxidative stress, which causes DNA damage, has been shown to hasten the shortening telomeres in cell culture. “
He further added with the display of few images he had on his table “from the documents by Anne Kreamer: Telomeres are the protective caps at the ends of our chromosomes. They are like the tips of shoelaces. If you lose the tips, the ends start fraying. Telomerase is an enzyme. In cells, it restores the length of the telomeres when they get worn. This precisely stated that ‘physiological stress increases disruptive normal cell activity in the human brain thus allows a degenerating effect to take place on the entire human body’.
“Chronic stress, and the perception of life stress, each had a significant impact on three biological factors — the length of telomeres, the activity of telomerase, and levels of oxidative stress — in immune system cells known as peripheral blood mononucleocytes, in healthy women “
We all were left spellbound after grasping all this information and to add more he provided with some extra information “in genetic engineering terms, stress increases the conjugation of RNA (Ribonucleic Acid) and DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid). Both these effects together reduce the life span of cells. This change takes place in all the cells of body. The chronic stress brings on premature old age “
“The conjugation of neurons RNA and DNA, and production of the free radical of RNA in the neurons are extremely hazardous because the neurons cannot be regenerated, once they are destroyed. This change normally, due to stress, diminishes memory and intellectual power. The effect was observed in students who are anxious and excited. Thus, stress has a very long arm and affects health is many way “.
The chief expert turn out when we were about to leave. The principal herself showered gratitude to the experts and chief; we left the place after organizing the visit for kids.
I returned home with all lots of quest solved. And got back to work.
A day later my son ran into garden with a great excitement. He hugged me and softly said “mommy can I go to visit the National Academy of Science with my friends and teachers? Please mommy I promise to be good and come home safely. “I dint knew what to say, but replied “fair you can go but only if you promise to be good and give me lots of kisses “. He jumped on his toes to give me kisses. While he left to play I went on with my thoughts which he broke as he hugged me from back “mom, you know my principal was right, you are the best. And you know I love you the most “.
This words were no less then the any heaven for me.
After his return from the National Academy Of Science, he was just running behind me with the information which I was already aware of “ oh mommy do you what is RNA ? “. ‘Oh dear, no! Do you know?” and he was proudly flashing “off course, mom, I know it “. And he was going on and on.
This was the something made me happy, I was happier for my son. The shadow suddenly was getting disappeared.
