Tea is cherished in many continents but it has many colors in Korean tradition. In Korea there is tea ceremony which carried out daily. The Korean tea ceremony locally known as ‘darye’ is a long-established form of tea service exercised in Korea.
Darye which factually adverts to “etiquette for tea” or “day tea rite” takes place among the folks of Korea from thousand years back. The principal factor of the Korean tea ceremony is to ambience of ease and naturalness for relishing tea within a simple formal setting.
Tea ceremonies are now getting rejuvenated in Korea as a way to find recreation and relaxation in the hectic lifestyle of new Korean culture.
Korean tea is spilt up into five different tastes such as bitterness, sweetness, astringency, saltiness and “sourness”. Mostly the tea are served fresh. There are many kinds of teas available in the Korean markets. Besides, there are at least fifteen Korean tea ceremonies that are performed.
One of them which is very popular in Korean tradition; Oksusu cha also known as “corn tea” is a traditional Korean tisane prepared from boiled roasted corn kernels. It consists of no tea leaves.
A tisane is herbal tea, tisane which can be described as an herbal infusion created from anything other than the leaves of the tea bush.
Like wise it is very simple to Oksusu cha:
- At very first place corn kernels are systematically dried which is then roasted until they turn golden brown.
- Then the roasted corn is imbued with boiling water until we don’t get a pale yellow color’s drink.
- Then the tea is filtered and lastly the boiled corns are discarded. Even though the drink is physically sweet, sugar crystals may be added to Oksusu cha.
Corn tea is very simple to prepare from scrape but as the world in growing and people lack of time they are also accessible in ready tea bags.
There are ample of uses of corn tea mentioned in Korean tradition but like very few know it creates wonder on health related troubles.

- Usually tea and coffee is not recommended for pregnant women as they consist of caffeine and tannin but herbal tea prepared by infusing some herb are good for them. Like wise corn tea is very beneficial for pregnant women as they are free of caffeine and tannin.
Tea has benefits and even corn has benefits, then why not extract all the benefits by combining them and enjoy the leisure in having a hot drink while you get chill in the cozy winters.
