We get gray hair usually when the aging process begins in our body. This makes gray hair an absolutely unlikely problem in children. However, still some children develop gray hairs. In this article, we have discussed the possible causes of gray hair in kids.
Premature graying:
Medically, this condition is referred to as canities. Hair follicles contain a cell type known as the melanocytes. These cells possess the responsibility of producing melanin, a pigment giving the hair its dark color. As the aging process begins, the melanocytes become less active and there’s a drop in the amount of melanin produced by them. This results in graying of hairs. If a child’s melanocytes become less active due to some reason, he can also develop gray hairs; the condition is referred to as premature graying.
