Music : A Divine Cure Of Alzheimer

“Where were you for so long?” Bennett queried in agitated voice, which surprised me as I never went anywhere without informing him. Somewhere I knew this is routine but still I expected him to remember that I had been to my exams and so undesirably even I replied in rough tone “how does it bother you? As of, you don’t remember”. This moment he sensed a roughness in my attitude and realized that he is forgetting something. Patting my back he said “oh! Come on I was just kidding, of course it does matter to me, Naia.” this made me to get on my nerve, I just looked in eyes “great, so you must know where I had been so long?” I knew he was not able to lie me as I was looking in his eyes, taking a heavy breath as of he just gave up “ ok, ok look I am really sorry but I really don’t remember what you have informed me,” all of sudden protesting his voice raised “ So what you want me to do ? What if I forget things? What?”
I knew he is loosing and so I had to stay calm. Well this was one good thing in our relation whenever either of was frustrated the other would take stand and remain calm. I wanted him to relax,  so I remain calm and answered in soft voice “ It’s not that I am angry because you have forgot that I had my exams today, but I am disturbed as you are not taking all this symptoms seriously.” I made him sit “and you very well know what I am talking about. Many times I have asked you to have check ups, but I don’t know what is pulling you back; it’s nothing big , but definitely one day it will become big, big enough for you to forget me.”

My last words actually shook him till the bottom of his heart.

Next morning, Bennett was missing and I regretted my last night words but in few minutes he called me saying “Naia I am in town hospital, within few minutes we will come to know all the details.” I was happy at least he took a step “well, there is nothing to worry, things will be fine. Come back home soon”.

It’s been two years after the proper treatment, Bennett has overcome his early stage of Alzheimer, nowadays Bennett challenges my memory and to my surprise I loose. Well, apart from the proper medication what helped us more was MUSIC THERAPY. Yes, Bennett loves music and with the doctors consultation we started this therapy which proved as amazing supplementary medication for him.

Music therapy for alzheimer's patients“Great music is that which penetrates the ear with facility and leaves the memory with difficulty. Magical music never leaves the memory.” Was, well said by Sir Thomas Beecham.

And definitely these words are proved right.

I feel great today when I see my hubby challenging even servants, which gave him immense pleasure but yes during our visit I had see many such people suffering from Alzheimer disorder. It is definitely 100% truth that proper medication can help this patients but I would not deny that music therapy is of great help to this patients. i know, like you all guys even first I dint thought of giving it a chance but when I got sufficient scientific detail I thought experiment it is as just supplementary .

And I would like to share all the details that I have gained which I might help you in taking care of your loved ones.

It’s from ages that music was found soothing and calming agent, but it also acted as a anti dote for stress and tension.

According to US researchers it is proved that music reduces aggression and agitation in these patients. It has also improved behavior and sleeping problems for Alzheimer group they improve levels of secretion of the hormone melatonin, which contribute patient to get relaxed and calm mood.

Music therapy effects on the levels of five brain chemicals -melatonin, nor epinephrine, epinephrine, serotonin, and prolactin which work in combination to influence mental state. Different areas of the brain are stimulated by certain situations and release chemicals into the blood.

The levels of melatonin increases, in the patients who participated in music therapy which makes them more active, sleep better, more cooperative with nurses which reduces stress and helps in relaxing.

Secondly, listening to certain tunes from one’s past evokes powerful and vivid memories that appear to be immune from the condition. And, by making a “Soundtracks of someone’s life in their mind is damaged. And playing it back to them will help to form a resistance to the disease”.

One of the section the brain is been associated with music and also associated with human’s most vivid memories and this region seemed to serve as a hub that links familiar music, memories and emotion.

I and my hubby had been lucky enough to get hold over the dark clouds that had scattered on our lives. It was just not science but faith and prayers that walked together in this phase. And I would definitely like to thank the person, my guardian angel who inducted me to this Music Therapy which proved a great help to us.

Barbara Crowe a past president of the National Association for Music Therapy had revealed once that “Music therapy can make the difference between withdrawal and awareness, between isolation and interaction, between chronic pain and comfort — between demoralization and dignity.”

i agree to the saying of Pat Conroy “Without music, life is a journey through a desert .”
