Swelling of gums usually occurs due to lack in oral and dental hygiene. You cannot categorize swelling of gums as disease, but yes, it is a symptom for any other underlying ailment. This symptom can arise due to many reasons. The causes for swelling of gums are as follows:
- Infection of gums or the oral cavity
- Allergies
- Lack of proper nourishment
- Gingivitis
- Pyorrhea or periodontitis
- Leukemia
- Monilia
When the gums get swollen, they show various abnormalities such as:
Reddening of gums- Yellowish patches of pus are seen in them
- Raised gums
- Severe pain in gums
- Shaky teeth and loosening of tooth
- Increase in the inter-spaces between teeth
- In certain severe condition, the gum may start bleeding
This symptom can be cured with various medicated drugs. Well, these medicated drugs leave harsh impact on your gums. Hence, you may try some home remedies for immediate relief without any side- effects. These home remedies are highly effective in the treatment of inflamed gums.
- Heat some small twigs of sheesham tree Indian rosewood. Heating will generate a foamy expulsion from the other end. Apply this foamy discharge on the gums. The application of this discharge will reduce the inflammation and also stop bleeding.
- Mix the essence of rose flowers with freshly squeezed lemon juice. Keep this mixture in your mouth for longer time and then throw away. Carry out this process for at least three times in a day.
- The bark of babul tree is also very effective in curing the inflamed gums. Boil the bark of tree and prepare a decoction. Cool the decoction and use it for gargling. Gargle with this water for three times in a day.
- Salt and ginger is considered as, an effective home remedy for the treatment of inflamed gums. Mix ginger paste with salt and put the mixture in affected region. Rub this mixture carefully on your gums for immediate relief.
Squeeze fresh lemon in a glass of warm water. Use this lemon water for gargling. Gargle with lemon water for at least two times in a day. It will lower down the intensity of inflammation. Gargling will also remove the foul smell due to bleeding in gums.- The leaves of lawsonia inermis- also called, as mehendi in Ayurveda is useful to reduce the inflammation. Boil the leaves in water for fifteen minutes. Strain the mixture and use the solution for gargling. Gargling with this solution will help to cure inflammation.
- For an immediate relief from inflammation and bleeding, you may gargle with salt water. This solution will give an instant relief from immense pain.
Apart from these home remedies, it is essential to practice some hygiene measures. Swelling of gums can be prevented with proper dental and oral hygiene.
Brush your teeth everyday for two times- Do not use the same brush after recovering from infection.
- Gargle thoroughly after your meals
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day
- Sip juices extracted from citrus fruits. Citrus fruits contain antioxidants, which will keep you away from infections.
Remove all tiny food particles from your teeth. Do not remove these particles by pricking any pointed thing. Use a toothpick to remove the particles.
