Dealing with stress is altogether different for different people. Every individual has their own perceptions and own way of handling things. The comfort level of every individual is unlike the other thus, every person handles their stress in their own way. Usually when people get nervous they try different ways to overcome it. Like, some people scratch their head, some frequently go to toilet, few of them start shivering, many of them grab chocolates, and some of them go for walk. But some people start nail biting. It is just not common in kids but even adults follow this bad habit.
Nail biting is often associated with low self esteem and nervousness. It is just not linked with psychological disturbance but it also affects your fingers and teeth. They ruin the health of your fingers and teeth. And many times kids follow elders and try to imitate them. So adults should understand that their bad habit can be adopted by kids which will be disastrous to their health. We don’t even realize that how badly how our health gets affected due to this small habit. We need to understand that this habit is harmful to health.
Well when we bite our nails the bacteria present in our nails enter our stomach and thus leads to infection. These infections are too bad for our health. Some infection affects on the intestine tracts. They even damage cuticle part of the nail. Many times it starts bleeding, creating wound. The skin which we bite with nails gets prone to viral infection. Frequent wetting of the fingers can also lead to yeast infection of the skin. The bacteria present on the nail get stored on our teeth, gums, and results in serious dental troubles. The dental problem like gingivitis is common with the people who bite their nail.
Usually, when mothers find their children biting nails, they try out some weird experiments. But these experiments generally do not give any results. The artificial and parched ideas as tying kids’ hands with rope or cloth, applying some chili powder of their fingers are absolutely of no use. At first just try to curb your own habit. I know there are no specific medicine to stop nail biting but ample of solutions are available that will help you.
- Always keep your nails clean-cut. Like when you won’t have any chocolates in your fridge how will you have them. Just like that when you won’t have any nails on your fingers there will be nothing to bite.
- Instead of chewing the grown nail, use nail clippers to cut down the nails. When we chew them they are cluttered any how, but trimming them with nail clippers gives them a proper shape.
- Have a nail file in your bag. Keep them handy as whenever you find your fingers finding a way to your mouth. Just start filing your nails; these will definitely keep your hands busy.
- Apply some attractive nail enamel to your nails. You will twice before destroying beautiful look of your nail. And secondly the nail enamel taste very much bitter which might sneak away the taste of your tongue. Hence in this fear at least you won’t bite your nails.
- Let some professional carry out your manicure. The acidic toner contains acrylic which leaves a bit bitter taste on your nails. Thus, will refrain yourself from nail biting. And apart from this they will even keep your nails healthy.
- Many of them have a habit to bite nails during sleep. In such case, wear gloves while sleeping.
- Pamper your nails so you will realize their importance as well as you will won’t you will care of the money you have spent in pampering your nails.
- Divert your mind and get you hands busy in any of the hobby. Knitting can be considered as best hobby to divert your mind from nail biting. Besides, you can even try out gardening, pottery, writing, making handicrafts, sewing, and paper crafting. All these will keep your hands busy and you won’t think of chewing your nails.
- Even try to keep your mouth busy. Munch on some healthy snack like dry fruits, nuts, fresh fruits, or even chewing gum will do. But try to have sugar free mint chewing gum which will not affect your teeth and gums.
- Whenever you feel tensed or stressed, sip good herbal tea or green tea. This will nourish your health and at the same time will keep you away from biting nails. You may even drink any fruit juice or vegetable juice.
- Yoga and meditation is a good option to reduce your stress level. Listening to music, light exercise like aerobics, walking, and jogging will definitely help you to stay calm and relax.
Well, apart from all these remedies you need to have a strong will power. Your wish will keep you determined. This is in many ways very helpful to our kids. The immune system of kids is that not strong and thus very easily infectious to bacteria or germs. So to keep them away from infectious ailments it is essential to teach them good habits. It is very well said that it takes huge time to build good habit, and less time to cultivate any bad habit.
