Color Therapy: An Innovative Solution To Kid’s Tears

And there was a huge splash as Sam landed himself in pool of colored water; all the kids near his pool caught their tummies as they could not hold their laughter back. Sam was in his usual rage and what boosted his anger; was my laughter. He stopped in front of me, waters draining with every possible color from his body. Sam’s niece Esther, who completed 4 years was having roaring laugh after seeing her uncle landing in pool while playing forcefully with all kids who were invited to her party.

After seeing, I realized it is so easily that kids laugh and get happy unlike, elder who require huge reasons for smiling. But at the same time very tiny things make them cry, which are impossible for us to even imagine. Most of the time when they cry we get paranoid and we are unable to make them smile. We forget small things that can get smiles on their face.

But when we are sad their one smile captures all our worries and makes us smile within fraction of seconds.

There are times when we fail to understand the reason for their crying, but there is one solution I have found and that is COLORS.

Take some time to say thank you
for the blessings that color your day;
Those colors will form a rainbow,
and chase the darkness away.

Children respond very easily to colors. If they don’t like any color or they are not comfortable with any color they start rebelling and crying. I have noticed many times when I dress my niece Neyse in her favorite color Pink, she is very happy but the moment I draw any brown color stuff for her she starts getting restless and in longer time she burst out. That is the impact of color on kids.

Color therapyIts not only kids but scientifically every human being has great impact of color which is also called CHROMOTHERAPY, COLOR THERAPY OR COLOROLOGY is an alternative medicine. It is claimed that color are used and to balance energy wherever a person’s body be lacking, be it physical, emotional, spiritual, or mental. It is a way of life and a universal language.

Color is the bright site of childhood. Children adore colors and give a respond on it. Like it is said by Elizabeth Lawrence “There is a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place where colors are brighter, the air softer, and the morning more fragrant than ever again”. It is not that hard to maintain the colors of their childhood. I guess the memories are the best preservative. What they always keep in mind is not the material gifts but they definitely remember the times we hug them and kiss them. Color your kid’s childhood by filling with all kinds of color. Tom Robbins has said “It’s never too late to have happy childhood “.

Children are attracted to bright colors. Researches show that according to age children’s preferences change. Many children under 10 call red (or pink) and yellow their favorite colors. But having grown above ten they start preferring blue. We consider it to be with the process of growing up and appearance of ability to perceive different hues of mood.

Color preferences are closely connected with gender. Most little girls prefer pink, lavender or violet. Little boys like black and other dark color more than girls.

Here is how we can use utilize colors in their life and make them smile. The most effective way to get profited from their color is to; utilize those colors in their rooms and wardrobe.

  • Color therapy for childrenBabies are happier when surrounded by calming soothing pastel shades, these new little people have a lot of adjusting to do and thrive in a calming environment.
  • Avoid busy patterns and strong colors in their rooms, as this will encourage hyperactivity and restless nights!
  • Newly born babies are very sensitive to color; this includes the colors that you dress them in.
  • Avoid brightly colored hats for new born in particular opt for pure white or cream for the head as the fontanel at the crown of the head is extremely sensitive, from eight to ten weeks pastel colors can be introduced.
  • Ro Logrippo reveals in her book “In My Room,” yellow responds to the chest, heart and lungs. According to it “Children with asthma and other breathing problems react most favorably to yellow.”
  • Coloring Toddler’s rooms is one of the challenges. Use color even on the ceiling, lying down the child will spend sometime before sleep looking upwards. Use a soft coral/peach/pink shade on the ceiling it will create the feeling of a safe & secure space. Our first color association is formed in the womb, where we are surrounded by warm nurturing tones created by the light permeating the mothers’ skin.
  • Bright primary colored environments can be beneficial for short periods of time, but not for full days. Strong colors will bombard their senses increasing hyperactivity, frustration and restlessness.
  • Intense warm colors such as reds and oranges tend to stimulate and excite children. If your child is warm and affectionate herself and if she loves to read or just relax in her room, you may consider the base from the red side of the color wheel.
  • Painting kid rooms, light cool colors such as blue green, light blue, blue-violet and even white have a calming effect and make rooms feel more spacious and elegant.
  • Ground colors like grays, browns, and muted yellows ground you. They are a great choice for hyperactive children, creating a sense of warmth, comfort and relaxation.
  • Green color used in your kid’s room refreshes room. A color that makes dim rooms seems more vibrant as long as it’s not too dark.
  • Blue often signifies harmony, loyalty, and peace, depth of feeling, sensitivity, wisdom, confidence and stability. It’s a great bedroom color as it slows the human nervous system and produces a calming effect that puts your baby to sleep.
  • Traditionally Purple signifies royalty, power, justice, nobility and luxury but it is also associated with depression and suffering. Dark purple can evoke feelings of sadness and frustration while, lighter purples can make the viewer feel peaceful, romantic and nostalgic. Light purple is a good choice for feminine kid rooms.
  • Yellow usually stimulates, energizes which is sunny and cheerful. Pale yellows make rooms seem larger while stronger yellows create warmth and brighten dim rooms.  But, If overused it may be disturbing to the viewer. It tends to grab attention and stimulate muscle activity.
  • You can also paint some good images of stars, moons, airplanes, fruits, planets, clouds, chocolates of course, depending on what your kid loves the most and would get a soothing sleep.

Always remember like we respond in a different way to different kind of music, food even kids react in different ways. So make sure whatever color you are using  reflects your kid’s personality and encourages him to build his own strength.

Nothing can actually be a substitute for childhood. And every child should get the best childhood. I mean that will be craved on his heart for life long. Many times children who don’t enjoy a healthy childhood usually remain disturbed through out his life. As he is try hard to eradicate those bad memories but since the brain has craved them in heart so it disheartens him all the life.

Amity Gaig has mentioned “Childhood is supposed to be happy, and if you can’t remember yours with any happiness, what hope have you later, when life starts handing you fresh grief? “.

I don’t think any thing more has to be explained but I guess I will be the happiest person if while reading this blog you guys have remembered at least one, I mean at least one happy moment of your childhood.

I still remember whenever I used to get angry with my pa and start crying, as I was unable to express my anger I use to cry. Then my pa use to come near me and measure my nose and comment “Oh! No Sarah see your nose has become shorter, while you were crying it went small” and I use to burst in laughter or he use to pull my cheeks and to god’s grace that activity has maintained till now from my childhood.

So lets us covet the years of childhood; a time of make-believe
and magic, tea parties and evening games of hide-and-go seek.
Let classrooms be a sunny safe haven where every child
is taught that all things are possible and to always
believe in the beauty of their dreams….
