Balancing Your Chakras



There are a number of imbalances that our bodies suffer from time to time. As a result of these, we end up experiencing mood swings, a sudden disinterest in work, or plain cases of fatigue. All of these end up having a draining effect on us by making us mentally or physically weak.

According to the Indian Vedas, there is a spinning wheel inside our bodies which is responsible for all these resulting and impending imbalances. This wheel can be balanced for us to reap a healthier and more fruitful life.

About our body:

Our body consists of around 7 centers of energy. These are responsible for transmitting energy. Each and every energy center is situated at what is a major endocrine gland; which is called the ‘plexus’. Each chakra is then associated with a different body part.

The Sanskrit word ‘chakra’ means ‘spinning wheel of energy’.

Some Facts:

The Crown, the throat and the third eye are the Top Three Chakras. They exhibit masculine energy and are responsible for analytical thoughts, reason and logic.

The Navel, Solar Plexus and the Root are the lower three chakras and represent feminine energy. These control memories, emotional reactions and creativity.

The Heart Chakra is the meeting point of the feminine and the masculine energy. This is the most potent place for one to visualize his/her desires. Staying focused on the heart will help you better manifest results that you desire to achieve.

If you end up learning the tricks to controlling the flow of what is, in reality, your own energy, it will end up leading to your good health, happiness and success.

The Root Chakra -

Indian Name: Mooldhar Chakra

Located at: Base of the spinal cord

Color: Red

Element associated: Earth

In control of: Desires, anger, greed, jealousy

Represents: Material aspects, loyalty, superstition, physical pain, physical pleasure, family beliefs, and instincts

Imbalance would lead to: Obsessions, loss of interest in reality, volatile emotions, and restlessness

Food that is recommended for this chakra: Potatoes, onions, garlic, soy products, hot paprika, cayenne, pepper

Navel Chakra -

Indian Name: Swadisthan Chakra

Color: Orange

Element associated:
Water

In control of:
Manifesting, sex, control, power, money, prosperity, sense of morality

Represents:
Creativity, sexuality, personal magnetism, sociability

Imbalance would lead to: Drug abuse, alcoholism, depression, issues of intimacy, depression

Food that is recommended for this chakra:
Strawberries, oranges, passion fruit, coconut, nuts and seeds like walnuts, spices like sweet paprika and caraway seeds.

The Heart Chakra

Indian Name: Anahat Chakra

Color: Pink and Green

Element associated:
Air

In control of: Tolerance, forgiveness, compassion, empathy. This is considered the seating place of the soul.

Represents: Self-confidence, inspiration, hope, love, compassion and on the negative side – jealousy, anger, fear, despair

Imbalance would lead to:
Difficulty in relationships, lack of self discipline

Food that is recommended for this chakra: Herbal teas, dandelion greens, cabbage, squash, celery, cauliflower, spinach; spices such as sage, basil, parsley, or thyme.
